Ennis hat seit 1610 das Marktrecht und dieses war die Grundlage für den Aufstieg der Stadt zum wirtschaftlichen Zentrum der Region. Daher ist es passend, dass das größte Monument von Ennis (von Barry Wrafter, 2011) am Marktplatz steht und eine typische Szene darstellt: Das Spucken in die Hände für den Handschlag zum Abschluss des Geschäfts. Und vermutlich wurden hier nicht nur Kühe verkauft, sondern auch so mancher Kuhhandel abgeschlossen.

Ennis has the right to hold markets since 1610 and that was the base for the rise of the town to the economic centre of the region. Therefore it is fitting that the largest monument of Ennis (by Barry Wrafter, 2011) was placed on Market Square and shows a typical scene: Spitting in the hand before the final hand shake to seal the deal. And presumable not only cows were sold, but there was some horse-trading, too.
