Shanmuckinish Turmhaus / Shanmuckinish Castle

Auf unserem Weg durch den Burren halten wir Ausschau nach alten Ruinen und sehen zwischen Bealaclugga (Béal an Chloga) und Ballyvaghan (Baile Uí Bheacháin) so eine am Meeresufer stehen. Es sind die Überreste von Shanmuckinish Castle (Muck inis - Schweineinsel), einem Wohnturm aus dem 15. Jahrhundert, von dem nur mehr eine Seitenwand erhalten ist. Teile der anderen Seitenwand liegen noch am Strand.
On our way through the Burren we look out for old ruins and between Bealaclugga (Béal an Chloga) and Ballyvaghan (Baile Uí Bheacháin) we spot one beside the seashore. These are the remains of Shanmuckinish Castle (Muck inis - pig island), an old tower house from the 15th century, of which only one sidewall is still standing. Parts of the other sidewall can still be found on the beach.
