Caherdooneerish Ringfort

Bevor wir in den Burren aufbrechen, suchen wir uns auf www.megalithicireland.com (Link siehe unten) mehrere Wallburgen heraus, die auf unserem Weg liegen. Wir entscheiden uns dann zum Besuch von Caherdooneerish Ringfort (Cathair Duin Irghuis - Fort des Irghuis), weil es die erste ist, an der wir vorbei kommen und auch weil es gerade nicht regnet. Wir gehen den Weg zur Wallburg, fast so wie auf der Webseite beschrieben, die auf einem Plateau in ca. 200 Meter Höhe liegt. Sehr viel mehr als die Außenmauern sind allerdings nicht erhalten geblieben.

Die Aussicht auf den Westen des Burren und der Galway Bucht entschädigt uns aber für die Mühen des Aufstiegs.

Before we set out for the Burren, we pick out a few ringforts along the way from www.megalithicireland.com (link see below). Finally we decide to visit Caherdooneerish ringfort (Cathair Duin Irghuis - Fort des Irghuis), because it is the first one we pass and also because it is not raining in the moment. Almost following the way described on the website, we climb up to the ringfort standing on a plateau about 200 metres above the sea. But there is not much left except the outer walls.

However the view over the west of the Burren and Galway Bay compensate for the labours of the ascent.
