Aran Inseln / Aran Islands

Am Ausgang der Galway Bucht liegen die drei Aran Inseln. Eine Fähre bringt uns von Rossaveel (Rós an Mhíl) auf die größte davon, Inishmore. Vom Hafen in Kilronan (Cill Rónáin) aus nehmen wir einen der vielen Mini-Busse zu einer Inselrundfahrt. Den Westteil der Insel bilden steile Klippen, die unablässig vom Meer unterhöhlt werden. Wenn die Wellen gegen das Land schlagen, spritzt die Gischt oft meterhoch auf.

At the opening of Galway Bay, the three Aran isles are situated. A ferry carries us over from Rossaveel (Rós an Mhíl) to the biggest one of them, Inishmore. From the harbour in Kilronan (Cill Rónáin) we take one of the many mini-vans to a trip around the isle. The west coast of the isle consists of steep cliffs, which are continuously hollowed out from below by the sea. When the waves beat against the land, the foam splashes up several metres.
