Durch Ballyvaughan (Baile Uí Bheacháin - Townland von Ó Beachán) sind wir während früherer Besuche schon ein paar Mal durchgefahren. 2023 zwingt uns aber eine Reifenpanne mehrere Stunden auf den Pannendienst zu warten und wir nutzen die Zeit, um uns die Stadt anzusehen.
Von der mittelalterlichen Burg sind keine Überreste geblieben. Die Kirche zum Hl. Johannes dem Täufer wurde in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts gleich drei Mal gebaut. Die ersten beiden Male wurde das Gebäude von starken Stürmen schwer beschädigt. Zu dieser Zeit war Ballyvaughan ein florierender Hafen, aber als die Straßen besser ausgebaut wurden, verlor der Hafen seine Bedeutung. Dafür bringen die Straßen heute Touristen in die Stadt.
We have pass through Ballyvaughan (Baile Uí Bheacháin - Townland of Ó Beachán) a couple of times during past visits. But in 2023 a flat tire forces us to wait some hours for the service car and we use the time for a stroll through the town.
There is nothing left of the medieval castle. The Church of Saint John the Baptist was built in the middle of the 19th century trice. The first two times strong storms heavily damaged the building. At this time Ballyvaughan was a thriving port, but when the streets were made better, the port lost its importance. On the other side, today the streets bring tourists into the town.
