Die erste Bibliothek in Cavan wurde 1930 eröffnet. Über die Jahre wuchs das Angebot und die Bibliothek wechselte mehrfach ihren Standort. 1999 wurden die Pläne für die Johnston Zentralbibliothek und Farnham Zentrum bewilligt. Benannt wurde sie in Gedenken an Brian Johnston, dem administrativen Leiter von Cavan, der sich bis zu seinem Tod 2003 für das Projekt einsetzte. Als Standort wurde das Gelände der ehemaligen Protestant Hall, die 1876 von Baron Farnham als Treffpunkt und Veranstaltungszentrum für die Bewohner von Cavan eingeweiht worden war, ausgewählt. Die Bibliothek wurde 2006 eröffnet und bietet nicht nur einen Bücherleihservice, sondern auch Internetzugang und verschiedene Veranstaltungen an. Wir interessieren uns vor allem für die Touristeninformation, die uns mit Wissenswertem über Cavan versorgt.
The first library in Cavan was opened in 1930. Over the years the offering grew and the library changed its location several times. In 1999 the plans for the Johnston Central Library and Farnham Centre were approved. It was named in memory of Brian Johnston, the Cavan County manager, who campaigned the project until his death in 2003. The chosen location was the area of the former Protestant Hall that had been dedicated as a place for meetings and events for the inhabitants of Cavan by Baron Farnham in 1876. The library was opened in 2006 and offers not only a book lending service but also internet access and various activities. We are especially interested in the tourist information that supplies us with many facts about Cavan.
