St. Klara Konvent / St. Clare's Convent

1861 holte der damalige Bischof James Browne Nonnen des Orden der Klarissen nach Cavan, wo sie ein Konvent gründeten und eine Schule für Mädchen führten. Ein paar Jahre später wurde die Einrichtung um das St. Josefs Waisenhaus erweitert. Am 23. Februar 1943 zerstörte ein Feuer das Waisenhaus und forderte 36 Todesopfer. Das Waisenhaus wurde wieder aufgebaut, in 1970 kam noch eine Grundschule dazu. 1981 verkauften die Klarissen das Konvent und übergaben die Kapelle an die Diözese von Kilmore. Der Bildungsauftrag wird heute in der St. Klara Grundschule und im St. Klara College weitergeführt.

In 1861 the then bishop James Browne invited nuns of the Order of Poor Clares to Cavan where they founded a convent and maintained a school for girls. A few years later the facility was expanded by the St. John's orphanage. On February 23^rd, 1943 a fire destroyed the orphanage and claimed 36 fatalities. The orphanage was rebuilt, in 1970 a primary school was added. In 1981 the Poor Clares sold the convent and handed over the chapel to the diocese of Kilmore. Today the educational function is continued by St. Clare's Primary School and St. Clare's College.
