Die Fiedel / The Fiddle

Völlig ohne historischen Kontext, einfach weil es uns gefallen hat: Beim Kreisverkehr auf der Kreuzung von Farnham Place, Farnham Street und Railway Road ragt ein überdimensionaler Geigenhals und eine passende Schnecke aus dem Boden. Viele Kreisverkehre in Irland sind mit Kunstwerken versehen, aber dieser ist das einzige, der dem wichtigsten Instrument der irischen Folkmusik Tribut zollt - und was wäre Irland ohne seine Musik? Das Kunstwerk heißt dann auch passenderweise "Die Fiedel" und wurde 2010 von Joey Burns geschaffen.

Without any historical context, simply because we liked it: On the roundabout at the crossing of Farnham Place, Farnham Street and Railway Road an oversized neck of a violin with a matching scroll protrudes from the ground. Many roundabouts in Ireland are decorated with works of art, but this is the only one that pays tribute to the most important instrument of Irish folk music - and what would be Ireland without its music? This work of art is aptly named "The Fiddle" and was created by Joey Burns in 2010.
