Rathaus / Town Hall

Das Rathaus wurde zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts im Auftrag des Cavan Stadtrats nach Plänen des Architekten William Scott erbaut. Der 11. Baron Farnham stellte das benötigte Grundstück zur Verfügung. Das Gebäude war auch ein wichtiger Versammlungs- und Veranstaltungsort. 2014 wurde der Stadtrat aufgelöst und in den Grafschaftsrat integriert. Das Rathaus wurde zum Townhall Arts Centre umgebaut.

Früher stand hier die franziskanische Abtei zur Hl. Maria. Die Witwe des 4. Baron Farnham (†1823) stiftete das Land, das als Farnham Garten neu gestaltet wurde. Mit Blumenbeeten und Bäumen diente der Garten zur Erholung der Einwohner. Im 20 Jahrhundert musste er jedoch der wachsenden Stadt weichen und alles was von ihm übrigblieb ist eine Rosenbeet vor dem Rathaus.

The town hall was built at the beginning of the 20^th century by order of the Cavan City Council after plans by the architect William Scott. The needed property was contributed by the 11^th Baron Farnham. The building was also an important place for meetings and events. The City Council was dissolved in 2014 and integrated into the County Council. The town hall was converted to the Townhall Arts Centre.

Once the Franciscan Abbey of St. Mary stood on this place. The widow of the 4^th Baron Farnham (†1823) donated the land that was newly designed as Farnham Gardens. With flowerbeds and trees the garden served for the recreation of the inhabitants. In the 20^th century however it had to give way to the growing town and all that is left of it is the rose bed in front of the town hall.
