Labbacallee Keilgrab / Labbacallee Wedge Tomb

Zwei Kilometer südlich von Glanworth (Gleannúir - das Eibental) liegt der Labbacallee (Leaba Caillighe – das Bett der Hexe) Grab, welches das größte Keilgrab Irlands ist. Es ist so ausgerichtet, dass das Licht der untergehenden Sonne an den beiden Tagen der Tag- und Nachtgleiche die inneren Kammern erhellt. Bei Ausgrabungen im Jahre 1934 wurden Fragmente von Gefäßen und Werkzeugen, sowie menschliche Knochen gefunden, die auf das 22. Jahrhundert vor Christus datiert wurden.
Labbacallee wird in lokalen Sagen mit der keltischen Hexen-Göttin Cailleach Bheur in Verbindung gebracht und tatsächlich wurde im Grab das Skelett einer Frau gefunden, deren Schädel getrennt vom Körper begraben wurde.
Two kilometres south of Glanworth (Gleannúir - the yew valley) stands the Labbacallee (Leaba Caillighe – the bed of the hag) Tomb, which is the biggest wedge tomb of Ireland. It is positioned in a way that twice a year on the days of the equinox the setting sun illuminates the inner chambers. During excavations in 1934 remains of pottery and tools were found, as well as human bones that could be dated to the 22nd century B. C.
Labbacallee is associated with the Celtic hag-goddess Cailleach Bheur in local folklore, and in fact in the tomb the skeleton of a woman was found, whose skull had been buried separated from her body.
