Old Head of Kinsale

Die Landzunge, die vor dem Hafen ins Meer ragt, ist heute ein Golfplatz. Aber auch hier hat sich Geschichte abgespielt: 1915 wurde 18 Kilometer vor der Küste das Passagierschiff Lusitania von einem deutschen U-Boot versenkt. Uns ärgert, dass wir nicht zum Leuchtturm gehen können, weil das Areal nur für Golfer zugänglich ist. Zumindest sehen wir die Überreste des Downmacpatrick Castles (oder Old Head Castles) direkt beim Eingang.
This spit of land right before the harbour of Kinsale is today occupied by a golf course. But here, history also took place: In the year 1915, a German U-boat sank the liner Lusitania 18 kilometres off the coast. We are annoyed that the area is only accessible for golfers and we cannot walk to the lighthouse. At least we see the remains of Downmacpatrick Castles (or Old Head Castles) directly at the entrance.
