Ein ungewöhnliches "Denkmal" finden wir zwischen Kloster und Burg: Den Startpunkt für das Glanworth Straßenbowling. Bei dieser Sportart muss ein Eisenball (Gewicht 794 g) mit möglichst wenig Würfen über eine vorgegebene Strecke bewegt werden, ähnlich Golf. Der Sport soll auf das frühe 17. Jahrhundert zurückgehen, als die Iren Kanonenkugeln von den Engländern stahlen und nach Hause rollten. Straßenbowling wurde vor allem in Cork und Armagh gespielt und hat sich von dort aus über die ganze Welt verbreitet.
We find an unusual "monument" between the friary and the castle: The starting point of the Glanworth road bowling. For this kind of sport an iron ball (weighing 794 g) has to be moved over a given length with as few throws as possible, similar to golf. The sport is said to go back to the early 17th century when the Irish stole cannon balls from the British and rolled them back home. Road bowling was played mostly in Cork and Armagh and from there spread all over the world.
