Die Renovierung der Kathedrale Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde von Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness (1798 - 1868), Erbe des Vermögens der Guinness Brauerei, bezahlt. Er stellte zur Bedingung, dass er seine eigenen Pläne umsetzen dürfe, die allerdings nicht unumstritten waren. Nach dem Abschluss der Arbeiten, wurde die Kathedrale 1865 mit einer großen Feier eröffnet.
The renovation of the cathedral in the middle of the 19th century was paid for by Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness (1798 - 1868), heir of the fortune of the Guinness brewery. He required that he could realize his own plans, which were rather controversial. After the restoration works were finished, the cathedral was reopened in 1865 with a large celebration.
