Die wohl bekannteste Frau in Dublin ist Molly Malone. Ob sie je wirklich gelebt hat oder ob sie nur ein Mythos ist, weiß niemand so wirklich - aber als echte Irin hat sie vermutlich von beidem etwas. Das Lied Cockles and Mussels hat ihr jedenfalls zur Unsterblichkeit verholfen und so schiebt ihre Statue noch heute ihren Karren durch die Straßen, breit und schmal. (Immerhin schafft sie es zwischen 2006 - als wir sie zum ersten Mal besuchen - und 2015 ihren Karren von der Grafton Street in die Suffolk Street zu schieben.)
Die Statue wurde von der Bildhauerin Jeanne Rynhart geschaffen, die im Juni 2020 im Alter von 74 Jahren verstarb. Ein anderen bekanntes Werk von Rynhart ist die Statue von Annie Moore in Cobh.
The best-known woman of Dublin is Molly Malone. Whether she really lived or whether she is only a myth nobody knows for sure - but as a genuine Irish woman she probably unites both qualities. Anyhow, the song Cockles and Mussels made her immortal and so her statue still wheels the barrow through the streets, broad and narrow. (After all, she manages to wheel her barrow between 2006 - when we visit her the first time - and 2015 from Grafton Street to Suffolk Street.)
The statue was created by artist Jeanne Rynhart who died in June 2020 at the age of 74 years. Another well-known work of Rynhart is the statue of Annie Moore in Cobh.
