Dort wo der Fluss Dodder in die Liffey mündet, ist auch die Einfahrtsschleuse zum Grand Canal Dock (Duga na Canálach Móire), von wo aus der Grand Canal nach Athy im Süden und zum Shannon im Westen führt. Waren früher hier nur große Warenhäuser zu finden, ist die Gegend seit einigen Jahren die Boomtown von Dublin. Es wurden neue Wohnungen gebaut und auch große Firmen siedeln sich hier an. (Dass diese Firmen mit geringen Steuern hergelockt wurden, gefällt den EU-Partnern gar nicht.) Der Aufstieg hat seinen Preis: Die Gegend ist für Mittelklassebürger unerschwinglich geworden.
Where the river Dodder ends in the Liffey, there is also the entrance lock to the Grand Canal Dock (Duga na Canálach Móire), from where the Grand Canal runs to Athy in the south and to the Shannon in the west. While in by-gone years only large warehouses could be found here, the area became the Boomtown of Dublin in recent years. Appartments were built and large companies opened their quarters. (That these companies were lured with low taxes is not liked by the EU partners.) The ascension has its price: The area became too expansive for middle-class citizens.
