Rundturm und Glockenturm / Round Tower and Belfry

Dem Hl. Columba wird auch die Gründung eines Klosters in Swords zugesprochen. Das Kloster wurde im 9. Jahrhundert um einen Rundturm erweitert, im 14. Jahrhundert kam ein Glockenturm dazu. Nach der Auflösung der Klöster verfiel es, bis es im 17. Jahrhundert durch eine neue Kirche ersetzt wurde. Rund- und Glockenturm sind damit die einzigen Überreste des ehemaligen Klosters.

St. Columba is also credited for founding a monastery in Swords. The monastery was expanded by a round tower in the 9th century, a belfry was added in the 14th century. After the abolition of all monasteries, this one fell into ruins and was replaced by a new church in the 17th century. Therefore the round tower and the belfry are the only remains of the former monastery.
