Swords
Quelle des Hl. Columba / St. Columba's Well
When St. Columba founded the town in the 6th century, he also is said to have blessed this well. Its clear and pure water gave the town its Gaelic name Sord, which was anglicanised to Swords. The well was the main water supply of Swords for centuries. Today it is below ground, a pump prevents the contamination of the well.
