Patrick Kavanagh Statue
Leafy-with-love banks and the green waters of the canal
Pouring redemption for me
On a bench on the banks of the canal there sits a bronze statue of Patrick Kavanagh (by John Coll) and looks thoughtfully into the waters. Exactly like the poet often did himself, after his lung cancer had been operated. Kavanagh also dedicated a poem to the canal (see links). On the plaque on the floor the first words of the poems are written:
Leafy-with-love banks and the green waters of the canal
Pouring redemption for me
