Donegal Burg / Donegal Castle

Hugh Roe I. O'Donnell ließ in der Mitte des 15. Jahrhundert eine Burg zur Befestigung der Stadt bauen. Um 1600 wurden die irischen Clans von den Engländern besiegt und Basil Brooke wurde mit dem Schloß belehnt. Dieser ließ das Schloss im jakobitischen Stil umbauen und um ein Herrenhaus erweitern. Das Herrenhaus steht heute nur mehr als Hülle und ohne Dach da. Der Wohnturm ist jedoch recht wohnlich hergerichtet und beherbergt die Ausstellung.
Hugh Roe I. O'Donnell had a castle built in the middle of the 15th century to fortify the town. Around 1600 the Irish clans were defeated by the English and the castle was granted to Basil Brooke. He reconstructed the castle in Jacobean style and extended it by a mansion. Of the mansion only an empty hull without a roof remains. But the tower has been customized rather comfortable and contains the exhibition.
