Kilclooney Dolmen

Als wir bei der Reisevorbereitung bei Google "Donegal Dolmen" eingeben, kommt als erstes der Kilcooney Dolmen mit tausenden Treffern. Den müssen wir sehen. In Kilcooney parken wir beim Dolmen Centre und fragen nach dem genauen Weg. Dann folgen wir dem Fußpfad zwischen den Feldern durch und kommen nach einigen Minuten zum Dolmen, der schon von Weitem sichtbar ist. Er ist mit 2 Metern Höhe wirklich imposant. Die wuchtige Deckplatte scheint kaum auf den stehenden Steinen zu liegen. Der Dolmen wird auf die Neusteinzeit (4000 - 3000 v. Chr) datiert. Bemerkenswert ist ein zweiter, kleiner Dolmen (im Bildhintergrund) nur wenige Meter entfernt, der auf eine zweite Grabkammer hinweist.
During the preperations for the journey we enter "Donegal Dolmen" in Google and first get the Kilcooney Dolmen with thousands of hits. That one we have to see. In Kilcooney we park beside the Dolmen Centre and ask for the exact way. Then we follow the foot path between fields and after a few minutes we reach the dolmen that can already be seen from afar. It has a height of 2 metres and is impressive. It looks as if the massive capstone is barely connected to the standing stones. The dolmen is dated to the Neolithic period (4000 - 3000 B.C.). It is also remarkable, that only a few metres away (in the background of the picture) there is a second smaller dolmen that hints at a second burial chamber.
