Hab ihr euch auch schon manchmal gefragt: Wer denkt sich nur all diese Namen für Dörfer, Berge und Flüsse aus? Am Parkplatz beim Barnesmore Durchbruch finden wir eine Antwort, zumindest für Donegal: John O'Donovan (Seán Ó Donnabháin), ein Angestellet der Ordnance Survey, wanderte im Herbst 1835 durch Donegal und befragte die Einwohner nach den Namen der Umgebung. O'Donovan schrieb dann diese Namen auf und legte ihre bis heute gültige Schreibweise fest. Darüber hinaus verfasste er auch eine genau Beschreibung der Lebenart der Leute in Donegal.
Did you ever ask yourself: Who invents all these names of villages, mountains and rivers? On the parkingplace close to the Barnesmore Gap we find an answer, at least for Donegal: John O'Donovan (Seán Ó Donnabháin), an employee of the Ordnance Survey, travelled through Donegal in the autumn of 1835 and asked the inhabitants for the names of the surrounding. O'Donovan then wrote these names down and fixed the spelling that is used to this day. More than that, he also recorded a detailled description of the lifestyle of the people in Donegal.
