Narrow Water Keep

Unweit der Mündung des Flusses Newry in den Carlingford Lough bei Warrenpoint (An Pointe) wurde bereits im 13. Jahrhundert von den Normannen eine Festung gebaut, um die Stadt Newry vor Angriffen zu schützen. Im 16. Jahrhundert ersetzten die Engländer die Festung durch eine Burg, in der eine Garnison für den selben Zweck stationiert war. Die Burg wechselte mehrfach den Besitzer und wurde aufgegeben, als im 19. Jahrhundert in der Nähe ein neues Narrow Water Castle errichtet wurde.
Close to the mouth of the Newry River into Carlingford Lough at Warrenpoint (An Pointe) a keep was built by the Normans in the 13th century to protect the town of Newry against attacks. In the 16th century the British replaced the keep by a castle, and stationed a garrison in it for the same purpose. The castle had several owners and was abandoned when in the 19th century a new Narrow Water Castle was constructed near-by.
