Die Kathedrale St. Nicholas und Maria Himmelfahrt wurde 1965 eingeweiht und ist eine der größten Kirchen Irlands. Sie wurde auf Nuns Island (Nonnen Insel) errichtet, wo früher das Stadtgefängnis war, und wurde aus Kalkstein und Connemara Marmor erbaut und mit Mosaiken und Glasmalereien verziert.
The Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St. Nicholas was consecrated in 1965 and is one of the largest churches in Ireland. It was erected on Nuns Island on the place of the former Old Galway Gaol, and was built with limestone and Connemara marble and decorated with mosaics and stained glass.
