Nach der Eroberung Irlands durch die Normannen im 13. Jahrhundert, wurde Maurice Fitzgerald mit der Gegend um Ardrahan belehnt. Aus dieser Zeit stammt auch die Burg, von der nur mehr der Teil einer Mauer steht. Der noch deutlich sichtbare Graben und die Motte weisen vielleicht darauf hin, dass zuvor eine ältere Burg auf diesem Platz stand.

After the conquest of Ireland by the Normans in the 13th century, the area around Ardrahan was enfeoffed to Maurice Fitzgerald. The castle dates back to those time, but only a part of one wall remains. The clearly recognisable moat and the motte indicate that there maybe was an older castle on this spot.
