Der Hl. Colman MacDuagh gründete im frühen 7. Jahrhundert westlich von Gort ein Kloster an der Stelle wo er bei einer Wanderung durch die Wälder seinen Gürtel verlor. Das Kloster wurde später nach ihm benannt (Cill Mhic Dhuach - die Kirche des Hl. MacDuagh). Der Bau der Kathedrale (Templemore Mac Duagh) wurde im 11. Jahrhundert begonnen, im 15. Jahrhundert wurden noch Querschiffe angebaut.
In the early 7th century St. Colman MacDuagh founded a monastery on the place where he lost his girdle while walking through the forest. The monastery was later named after him (Cill Mhic Dhuach - the church of St. MacDuagh). The building of the cathedral (Templemore Mac Duagh) commenced in the 11th century, transepts were added in the 15th century.
