Bei Ausgrabungsarbeiten in der Nähe der Moone (Maoin) Abbey wurden die Teile eine Hochkreuzes aus dem 8. Jahrhundert entdeckt. Sie waren so gut erhalten, dass beschlossen wurde, das über 5 Meter hohe Kreuz wieder zu errichten. Das zweithöchste Kreuz Irlands steht heute innerhalb der Ruinen einer Kirche, ein Dach schützt es vor weiterer Verwitterung. (Das höchste Kreuz steht in Monasterboice.)
During excavations near Moone (Maoin) Abbey, parts of a high cross from the 8th century were detected. They were so well preserved that it was possible to put them together again to the original height of 5 metres. This second highest cross of Ireland is now located inside the ruins of a church, a roof protects it against further weathering. (The highest cross stands in Monasterboice.)
