Maynooth

1176 belehnte der Normanne Richard "Strongbow" de Clare seinen Gefolgsmann Maurice Fitzgerald mit dem Gebiet um Maynooth (Maigh Nuad - die Ebene von Nuada). Die FitzGerald Familie herrschte von hier aus als eine der mächtigsten Familien Irlands bis in die Tudor Zeit. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde Maynooth zu einer Universitätsstadt, was es bis heute geblieben ist.

In 1176 the Norman Richard "Strongbow" de Clare granted his liegeman Maurice Fitzgerald with the area around Maynooth (Maigh Nuad - the plain of Nuada). The FitzGerald family ruled from here as one of the most powerful families of Ireland until the Tudor age. In the 18th century Maynooth became a university town, which it has been until today.
