Kirche zum Hl. Michael / St. Michael's Church

Die protestantische Kirche zum Hl. Michael wurde zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts aus Mitteln des "Board of First Fruits" gebaut (eine Sondersteuer, die von katholischen Bauern bezahlt werden musste und die für den Bau protestantischer Kirchen verwendet wurde). In den 1860ern wurde die Kirche vergrößert, um der steigenden Zahl an Gläubigen Platz zu bieten. 1997 wurde eine neue Kirche zum Hl. Michael im Westen von Killorglin errichtet und das alte Gebäude wurde verkauft. In ihm ist bei unserem Besuch 2023 das Restaurant "10 Bridge Street" (die ehemalige Adresse der alten Kirche) untergebracht.

St. Michael's Church of Ireland was built at the beginning of the 19th century with money from the Board of First Fruits (an extraordinary tax that had to be paid by Catholic farmers and that was used to build Protestant churches). In the 1860s the church was enlarged to accommodate the increasing number of believers. In 1997 a new St. Michael's Church was constructed in the west of Killorglin and the old building was sold. When we visit in 2023 it housed the restaurant "10 Bridge Street" (the former address of the old church).
