Die Familie Blennerhasset waren während des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts die Grundherren der Gegend um Killorglin. Viele der (männlichen) Familienmitglieder waren Offiziere und / oder Politiker. Townsend Blennerhassett (1829 - 1867) kam bei einer Vergnügungsbootsfahrt ums Leben, als er versuchte einen von Bord gefallenen Bootsmann zu retten und dann selbst ertrank. Seine Offiziersbrüder der Kerry Landwehr errichteten dieses Monument zum Gedenken an Townsend.

The Blennerhasset family were the landlords of the area around Killorglin during the 18th and 19th century. Many of the (male) family members were officers and / or politicians. Townsend Blennerhassett (1829 - 1867) lost his life during a leisure cruise when he tried so save a boatman, who had gone overboard, and then drowned himself. His brother officers of the Kelly Militia erected this monument in commemoration of Townsend.
