Der Hl. Maolceathair (gestorben 636) gründete in Kilmalkedar (Cill Mhaoilcéadair) eine frühchristliche Siedlung, die nachweislich bis ins 17. Jahrhundert bestand. Etwa in der Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts wurde eine romanische Kirche erbaut, welche das imposanteste Gebäude dieser historischen Stätte ist.

St. Maolceathair (died 636) founded a Early Christian settlement in Kilmalkedar (Cill Mhaoilcéadair) that verifiable still existed in the 17th century. In the middle of the 12th century a church in Hiberno-Romanesque style was added that is the most imposing building of this historical site.
