Maid of Erin

Der in Listowel wohnende Stuckateur und Baumeister Pat McAuliffe (1846 - 1921) versah mehrere Gebäude in der Stadt mit seinen Werken. Eines davon an der Nordost-Ecke von The Square zeigt die Maid von Irland mit den typischen Attributen Harfe und Wolfshund. Warum sie jemand mit einer Perücke und einer U.S. amerikanischen Fahne verschandelt hat, verstehen wir nicht. Aber wir verstehen das Motto zu ihren Füßen: Erin go Bragh - Irland für immer.
The plasterer and builder Pat McAuliffe (1846 - 1921) from Listowel embellished several buildings in the town with his works. One of them on the north-east corner of The Square depicts the Maid of Erin with the typical attributes of harp and wolfhound. Why someone spoilt it with a wig and the U.S. flag, we cannot understand. But we understand the slogan at her feet: Erin go Bragh - Ireland forever.
