In der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde die Schiffbarkeit der Boyne verbessert, zum Teil durch Kanäle parallel zum Fluss. Dies ermöglichte den schnellen Warentransport von und zum Hafen von Drogheda. Der Engländer David Jebb (der als Ingenieur den Bau geleitet hatte), William Burton Conyngham und Blayney Balfour errichteten 1766 gemeinsam eine Mehlmühle, ein Wehr, um das Wasser der Boyne aufzustauen, und einen Mühlkanal, um das Wasser zur Mühle zu bringen. Die Müller wohnten in einem Haus nebenan. In den 1790ern zerstritten sich Jebb und Conyngham, Jebb ging zurück nach England, wo er 1829 verarmt verstarb. Am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde die Mühle auf die Verarbeitung von Textilien umgestellt, um sie an die geänderten Marktbedingungen anzupassen. Mit dem Untergang der europäischen Textilindustrie durch die Billigkonkurrenz aus dem Fernen Osten wurde auch die Mühle in Slane stillgelegt. 2006 wurde das Mühlenhaus renoviert und zu einem Hotel umgebaut.
In the middle of the 18th century the navigation of the Boyne was improved, partially by canals parallel to the river. This made it possible to quickly transport goods to and from the harbour of Drogheda. In 1766 the Englishman David Jebb (who was the engineer in charge of the construction), William Burton Conyngham and Blayney Balfour together built a flour mill, a weir to dam up the water of the Boyne and a mill race to bring the water to the mill. The millers lived in a house beside the mill. In the 1790ies Jebb and Conyngham fell out, Jebb went back to England where he died impoverished in 1829. At the end of the 19th century the mill was converted to process textiles in order to adapt to the changed market conditions. With the downfall of the European textile industry at the end of the 20th century due to the cheap competition from the Far East, also the mill in Slane was closed down. In 2006 the mill house was renovated and altered to a hotel.
