Croagh Patrick

(2015-07-16)

The mountain of St. Patrick with its 758 metre is not Ireland's highest, but surely its best known peak. Here, the saint was fasting and praying for 40 days and nights, and subsequently he expelled all snakes from Ireland by ringing his bells. To his honour, each year on the last Sunday in July there is a pilgrimage, when thousands of believers, partly barefooted, climb up the stony path to "St. Patrick's Bed" near the mountaintop.
