Cong Abtei / Cong Abbey

Bereits im 7. Jahrhundert wurde hier eine Abtei gebaut, die aber im 12. Jahrhundert abbrannte. Die letzten Hochkönige von Irland bauten die Abtei wieder auf. Später übernahmen die Augustiner die Abtei, gaben sie aber Mitte des 16. Jahrhundert auf.
As early as the 7th century there was an abbey in this place, but is was destroyed by fire in the 12th century. The last High Kings of Ireland rebuilt the abbey again. Later Augustinian monks took over the abbey, but abandoned it in the middle of the 16th century.
