Fischerhuette der Moenche / Monks' Fishing House

(2012-08-17)

A short distance from the abbey lies the Monks' Fishing House, directly over the Moy River, which connects Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. The floor of the stone house has a hole, under which the water is guided through a narrow channel. The monks could easily hang a fishing hook into the water, which was connected by the line to a bell - when a fish took the bait, the bell rang.
