Als um etwa 1800 der O'Connor Square zu klein für die in Tullamore abgehaltenen Märkte wurde, wurde ein bis dahin brach liegendes Grundstück für den neuen Marktplatz ausgewählt. Es bot deutlich mehr Platz für Marktstände und lag auch näher am Hafen des ebenfalls um diese Zeit gebauten Grand Canals. Eigentlich war das Grundstück für eine neue Kirche der Church of Ireland vorgesehen, die aber dann weiter südöstlich gebaut wurde.
Das Gebäude im Hintergrund wurde 1924 als Kino gebaut, das bis in die frühen 1980er in Betrieb war. 1995 eröffneten Fergie und Mairead Quinn Fergie's Pub, das sie bis 2025 führten. Die neuen Besitzer, Droughill Builders Ltd, planen das Pub weiterzuführen.
Drei Skulpturen aus rotem Granit (geschaffen von Eileen McDonagh in der Form vom Destillen) erinnern seit 2000 an die Jahrhunderte lange Geschichte der Whiskeyherstellung in Tullamore.
When O'Connor Square became too small for the markets held in Tullamore around 1800 an until then fallow plot was chosen for the new market place. It offered much more space for market stalls and also was closer to the harbour of the Grand Canal that was likewise built at that time. Previously the plot had been envisaged for the new Church-of-Ireland church, but that was ultimately built farther to the south-east.
The building in the background was built in 1924 as cinema that was in operation until the 1980ies. In 1995 Fergie and Mairead Quinn opened Fergie's Pub in it that the two led until 2025. The new owners, Droughill Builders Ltd, plan to continue the pub.
Three sculptures made from red granite (created by Eileen McDonagh in the form of stills) commemorate since 2000 the centuries long history of whiskey production in Tullamore.
