Warenhaus und Bury Kai / Warehouse and Bury Quay

1897 pachtete Daniel Edmund Williams, der damalige Manager der Tullamore Destillerie, ein Stück unbebautes Land direkt neben dem Grand Canal und ließ dort ein Zolllagerhaus für die produzierten Whiskeyfässer bauen. Die direkte Lage am Kanal war für den Transport ideal. Das Lagerhaus war bis 1985 in Verwendung, dann wurde die Destillerie verkauft und geschlossen. 2000 wurde im Lagerhaus das Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre eröffnet, das ab 2012 um ein Restaurant erweitert wurde. Beides wurde 2020 geschlossen. Im Dezember 2022 wurde das Gebäude restauriert und als Old Warehouse Restaurant wieder eröffnet. Es scheint auch 2025 noch gut zu gehen, denn wann immer wir hierher kommen, sind die Tische voll besetzt.
Etwas abseits des Lagerhauses steht immer noch einer der Kräne, mit dem die Whiskeyfässer für den Abtransport auf Lastkähne verladen wurden.
In 1897 Daniel Edmund Williams, the then manager of the Tullamore distillery, leased a plot of unused land directly beside the Grand Canal and had there built a bonded warehouse for the produced whiskey barrels. The direct position at the canal was ideal for transport. The warehouse was in use until 1985, when the distillery was sold and closed down. In 2000 the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre was opened in the warehouse that was extended by a restaurant in 2012. Both were closed in 2020. In December 2022 the building was renovated and reopened as Old Warehouse Restaurant. It seems to be still running well in 2025 because whenever we come here all tables are taken.
Aside the warehouse there is still one of the cranes used for loading the whiskey barrels onto barges for transport.
