Beim Rundgang durch Tullamore kommen wir zur Castle View Road, wo wir viel sehen, nur keine Burg. Erst auf der Brücke der R443 über den Roayal Canal sehen wir die Srah Burg aus einiger Entfernung. Sie wurde 1588 vom Engländer John Briscoe gebaut und ist gut befestigt. Aber nicht gut genug für die Truppen Oliver Cromwells, die die Burg in der Mitte das 17. Jahrhundert einnahmen und eine Ruine zurückließen. Aber wie immer ist die Zeit knapp und die Ruine in schlechtem Zustand, also lassen wir sie diesmal aus. Und nach den Berichten im Internet ist es sowieso besser die Burg nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit zu besuchen, wenn die Burggeister erwachen.

The round tour through Tullamore brings us to the Castle View Road, where we can see much, but no castle. We have to ascend the bridge of the R443 over the Royal Canal to view Srah Castle from some distance. It was built in 1588 by the English John Briscoe and is well fortified. But not good enough for the troops of Oliver Cromwell, who conquered the castle in the middle of the 17th century and left it as a ruin. But as always, time is scarce and the ruin in a bad condition, therefore we skip it this time. And according to the reports in the internet it is in any case better to visit the castle after the break of dusk when the resident ghosts awaken.
