Shannonbridge

In Shannonbridge (Droichead na Sionainne) steht eine der ältesten Brücken über den Shannon (Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts). Die Burg daneben wurde von den Engländern in der Napoleonischen Zeit verstärkt. Etwas weiter flussaufwärts überquerte der Hl. Patrick bei der Furt Snámh Dá Éan (Schwimmen zwei Vögel) den Shannon, um in die Connacht zu gelangen.

In Shannonbridge (Droichead na Sionainne) there is one of the oldest bridges over the Shannon, dating back to the middle of the 18th century. The castle beside it was fortified by the British in the Napoleonic era. Some short way upstream the St. Patrick crossed the Shannon at the ford Snámh Dá Éan (swim two birds) to reach the Connacht.
