Shannon Harbour

Nach der Fertigstellung der Hauptlinie des Kanals Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts, war Shannon Harbour (Caladh na Sionainne) ein Platz eifriger Aktivitäten. Das Hafenhotel profitierte vom Strom der Auswanderer auf ihrem Weg nach Übersee. Als der Kanal an Bedeutung verlor, endeten auch die Aktivitäten. Heute ist es hier ruhig und beschaulich. Trotz der vielen Schiffe ist auch hier kaum eines unterwegs.

After the mainline of the canal was completed at the beginning of the 19th century, Shannon Harbour (Caladh na Sionainne) was a place of busy activities. The harbour hotel profited from the stream of emigrants on their way to overseas. When the canal lost its importance, the activities ended, too. Today here it is quiet and tranquil. Despite the many ships barely one can be seen travelling along.
