Loughnaneane Park

In vor-normannischer Zeit regierte der Clan O'Conor (Ó Conchobair) sein Königreich von einem Crannóg (RO039-042----) aus, der im Becken des Karstsees (turlough) Loughnaneane (Loch na nÉan, See der Vögel) lag. Der Rinderraub von Cooley (Táin Bó Cúailnge), eine Sage aus dem 9. Jahrhundert, nimmt am Ufer des Sees ihren Anfang und berichtet, dass im See ein Zugang zur Anderswelt vorhanden sei. Später schützte der See die Burg vor Angreifern aus dem Westen.

Vom See ist heute nur mehr ein kleiner Teich übrig geblieben. Anfang der 2000er wurde um den Teich ein ca. 5,6 Hektar großer Park eröffnet, mit Spielplätzen für Groß und Klein. Der Skulpturenpfad führt an fünf aus Holz geschnitzten Skulpturen vorbei: Queen Maeve und Cú Chulainn (beide aus der Sage um den Rinderraub), Felim O'Conor und Aedh O'Conor (die Anführer des Clan O'Conor im 13. Jahrhundert) und dem "Naturstuhl", einer mit vielen Tieren verziertem Art Thron.

In pre-Norman times the Clan O'Conor (Ó Conchobair) ruled their kingdom from a crannóg (RO039-042----) that was in the basin of the turlough Loughnaneane (Loch na nÉan, lake of the birds). The Cattle Raid of Cooley (Táin Bó Cúailnge), a legend from the 9^th century, has its beginnings on the shores of the lake and tells that in the lake there is an access to the Otherworld. Later the lake protected the castle from attackers from the west.

Only a small pond remains of the lake in these days. At the beginning of the 2000s a park with about 5,6 hectares was opened around the lake, with playgrounds for the playful of all ages. The sculpture path passes five sculptures carved from wood: Queen Maeve and Cú Chulain (both from the legend of the Cattle Raid), Felim O'Conor and Aedh O'Conor (the leaders of the Clan O'Conor in the 13^th century) and The Nature Chair, a kind of throne decorated with many animals.
