Das alte Gefängnis wurde in der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts gebaut und bestand aus den Verwaltungsräumen, dem Privatquartier des Direktors und 36 Zellen. Die berüchtigtste Insassin war "Lady Betty", eine Mörderin, die begnadigt wurde, weil sie die Arbeit des Henkers übernahm - die letzte Henkerin in der Geschichte Irlands. 1820 wurde der Gefängnisbetrieb in ein neues, größeres Gebäude verlegt. Das alte Gefängnis wurde danach als psychiatrische Anstalt, als Pockenspital, als Markthaus und Wohnhaus verwendet. Seit 1999 ist das Stone Court Centre, eine Mischung aus Geschäften und Wohnungen, im Gebäude untergebracht.

The old gaol was built in the middle of the 18^th century and consisted of the administrative rooms, the private quarters of the governor and 36 cells. The most infamous inmate was "Lady Betty", a murderer who was pardoned because she took over the work of the executioner - the last hangwoman in the history of Ireland. In 1820 the prison operation was moved to a newer, larger building. The old gaol was then used as mental institution, as hospital for smallpox, as market house and as residential house. Since 1999 the Stone Court Centre, a mixture of shops and apartments, is situated in the building.
