Der Carnfree Hügel (Carn Fráoich, Fráochs Grab, Nummer 2 auf der Carns Route) steht weitab der Straße und ist gerade noch sichtbar. Der Hügel ist 2 Meter hoch und hat einen Durchmesser von 11 Metern, wird auf die Bronzezeit datiert und soll das Grab des Kriegers Fráoch sein, der in der Mythologie von Connacht eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Da es aber mehrere Krieger mit diesem Namen gab, ist nicht mehr klar, welcher genau gemeint ist. Von sechzehn weiteren Grabhügeln umgeben, ist Carnfree der Mittelpunkt der prähistorischen Gräberansammlung Ard Caoin. Die Annalen von Connacht berichten, dass Carnfree vom 12. Jahrhundert (und möglicherweise schon davor) bis ins späte Mittelalter der Krönungsort der Könige von Connacht aus dem Clan der O'Conor war, unter anderem von Felim O'Conor.

Carnfree Mound (Carn Fráoich, Fráoch's Cairn, number 2 on the Carns Route) stands far away from the road and is just visible. The mound is 2 metres high and has a diameter of 11 metres, is dated to the Bronze Age and is reported to be the grave of the warrior Fráoch, who plays an important role in the mythology of Connacht. But as there were several warriors with that name, it is not clear which one exactly is meant. Surrounded by sixteen more mounds, Carnfree is the centre of the prehistoric cairn complex Ard Caoin. The Annals of Connacht report that since the 12th century (and maybe even before that) and until the late Middle Ages Carnfree was the inauguration place of the kings of Connacht from the Clan O'Conor, among them Felim O'Conor.
