Lough Kilglass

Lough Kilglass (Loch Chill Ghlais, möglicherweise grüner Wald) ist einer der vielen Seen, die nach der letzten Eiszeit in der Mitte Irlands entstanden sind. Er gehört zum Strokestown Seensystem, das 14 Seen umfasst und bei Anglern sehr beliebt sind (gemäß den einschlägigen Webseiten). Es gibt eine Zufahrt zum See mit Parkplatz und Picknickbereich - Grund genug für eine kurze Pause. Auf dem See gibt es auch drei kleine Inseln, die früher einmal besiedelt waren (crannogs). Die südlichste davon ist vom Pier aus möglicherweise sogar sichtbar - sicher sind wir uns aber nicht.
Lough Kilglass (Loch Chill Ghlais, maybe green wood) is one of the many lakes that formed in the Irish Midlands after the last Ice Age. It belongs to the Strokestown Lake System that encompasses 14 lakes that are well liked by anglers (according to the relevant websites). There is an access to the lake with a parking place and a picnic area - reason enough for a short break. On the lake there are also three isles that once were inhabited (crannogs). The most southern one of them is perhaps even visible from the pier - but we are not completely sure.
