Grianan Aileach

Das Grianán Ailigh ist ein altes Steinfort, dessen Ursprung zurück zu den Zeiten der Mythen und Legenden reicht, die besagen, dass es von Dagda - einem alten König der Tuatha De Danann - im Jahre 1700 v.Chr. erbaut wurde. Da es aber Anfang des zweiten Jahrtausends zerstört wurde, ist das heutige Fort weitgehend eine Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts erbaute Rekonstruktion. Das besondere ist aber die Lage des Forts - von seinen Mauern aus kann in alle Richtungen weit in das Land hinein gesehen werden.

Grianán Ailigh is an old stone fort, its origins go back to the times of myths and lore, which say that it was built by Dagda - an ancient king of the Tuatha De Danann - in 1700 B.C. As it was destroyed at the beginning of the second millennium, the fort we see today is mostly a reconstruction built at the end of the 19^th century. The remarkable thing about this fort is its location - from the ramparts you can see in every direction far into the countryside.
