Croagh Patrick

Der Berg des Hl. Patrick ist mit 758 Metern nicht Irlands höchster, aber sicherlich sein bekanntester Gipfel. Hier hat der Heilige 40 Tage und Nächte gefastet und gebetet und anschließend durch Läuten seiner Glocke alle Schlangen aus Irland vertrieben. Ihm zu Ehren findet jedes Jahr am letzten Sonntag im Juli eine Wallfahrt statt, bei der tausende Iren zum Teil barfuß den steinigen Weg bis zu "St. Patricks Bett" nahe des Gipfels emporsteigen. The mountain of St. Patrick with its 758 metre is not Ireland's highest, but surely its best known peak. Here, the saint was fasting and praying for 40 days and nights, and subsequently he expelled all snakes from Ireland by ringing his bells.
