Der kleine Ort Cong liegt auf einem schmalen Landstreifen zwischen den Seen Corrib und Mask (Gälisch cunga = Landenge). Hier drehte John Ford im Jahre 1951 der Film "The Quiet Man" mit John Wayne und Maureen O'Hara (Oscar für beste Regie). An jeder Ecke sehen wir Erinnerungen an dieses Ereignis. Aber auch für Freunde der älteren Geschichte gibt er in der Gegend viel zu sehen: Von Gräbern aus der Steinzeit über Steinringe aus der Bronzezeit und "Standing stones" aus der Eisenzeit, bis zu einer frühchristlichen Abtei. The small village of Cong is situated on the narrow isthmus between the lakes Corrib and Mask (Gaelic cunga = isthmus). Here in the year 1951, John Ford shot the film "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (Oscar for best direction). Around each corner we find reminders of this event. But there is also much to see for friends of the older history in this area: from tombs of the stone age to stone circles of the bronze age and "Standing Stones" of the iron age up to an early Christian abbey.
