Ceide Fields

Vor fünftausend Jahren ließ sich hier im Norden Mayos eine kleine Gruppe von Menschen nieder, machten das Land urbar und erbauten Häuser. Nur wenige Jahrhunderte später überdeckte das wachsende Moor die verlassene Siedlung. Erst Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde diese Siedlung erforscht - ihre Vollständigkeit macht sie einzigartig und wirft ein neues Licht auf die Lebensgewohnheiten der Menschen in der Bronzezeit.
Der auffälligste Bau heutzutage ist das pyramidenförmige Besucherzentrum, das uns Informationen über die Céide Fields und die Umgebung bietet. Mehr...

Five thousand years ago a small group of men settled here in the north of Mayo, cultivated the land and built houses. Only a few centuries later the growing moor covered the vacated settlement. It was not before the end of the 20^th century that this settlement was explored - its completeness making it unique and shedding a new light on the way humans lived during the Bronze Age.
The most eye-catching building today is the pyramid-shaped Visitor's Centre, which presents a lot of information about Céide Fields and the close-by area. More...
