Killaloe

Killaloe ist das Ende des schiffbaren Teils des Shannon. Hier holen sich die Touristen ihr Hausboot ab, mit dem sie dann eine oder zwei Wochen lang den Shannon hinauf und wieder herunter fahren. Der Ort ist schon sehr alt, hier regierte einst der sagenhafte König Brian Boru.
Neben dem St. Flannan's Oratory aus dem 12. Jahrhundert (im Bild) erhebt sich eine romanische Kathedrale aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, in der sich ein berühmter Ogham Stein befindet.

Killaloe is the lower end of the navigable part of the Shannon. This is the place where tourists rent a houseboat to drive up and down again the river Shannon for one or two weeks. This place is quite old, the royal palace of King Brian Boru was once here.
Beside the St. Flannan's Oratory, built in the 12^th century, (seen in the picture) there is a Romanesque cathedral of the 13^th century, inside which there is a famous Ogham stone.
