Belturbet Motte

Die Tafel verweist uns auf eine kleine Insel in der Erne, auf der eine Motte steht. Diese wurde in den Jahren 1210 bis 1211 im Auftrag von John Le Gray, der Justiziar von John of England war, erbaut. Es war eine von mehreren Festungen, die von Anglo-Normannen als Schutz ihrer Eroberungen gegen die Iren in Ulster gebaut wurden.
Der Hügel ist dicht bewachsen, es führt zwar eine Treppe den Anstieg hinauf, jedoch dahinter ist nur dichtes Grünzeug.
Der Außenhof (bailey) ist ebenfalls überwuchert - und er schaut aus, als ob dort heftig gefeiert worden wäre. Der einzige Mistkübel ist hoffnungslos überlastet, der restliche Müll liegt irgendwie verstreut.

The board directs us to a small isle in the Erne, on which a motte stands. It was erected in the years 1210 to 1211 by order of John Le Gray, the justiciar of John of England. It was one of several strongholds built by the Anglo-Normans to protect their conquest against the Irish men from Ulster.
The mound is overgrown, although some stairs are leading up the ascent, behind it are only dense plants.
The bailey is also overgrown - and it locks as if a party had taken place. The only waste basket is hopelessly overburdened, the remaining litter is scattered all around.
